Enugu State Government has allocated N30 billion in the 2026 budget to feed approximately 260,000 pupils daily in 260 Smart Green Schools across the state. This initiative aims to achieve zero child malnourishment and promote the wellbeing of children. The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Barr. Chris-Roberts Ozongwu, stated that the school feeding program will provide one balanced meal per child daily, supporting growth and learning.
The government has also prioritized education, allocating 32.27% of the N1.62 trillion budget to the sector. This includes:
- N158 billion for constructing 16 Smart Senior Secondary Schools
- N68 billion for building 10 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools
- N30 billion for equipping existing Technical Colleges
- N15 billion for upgrading 106 public secondary schools into Model Senior Secondary Schools
