Prof. Charles Igwe, the 15th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has reportedly died. He served as VC from 2019 to 2024. A Professor of Soil Science, Igwe was Deputy VC Admin before assuming the top role. 

His research focused on tropical soil stability and carbon sequestration. Igwe was a fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science. 

The cause of his death hasn't been disclosed. Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya has succeeded him as the 16th VC, becoming the first indigenous VC from Nsukka. Igwe's tenure was marked by efforts to enhance academic excellence and infrastructure development.
