Islamic cleric Sheik Gumi has condemned the US strike in Sokoto State, Nigeria, targeting ISIS terrorists, saying the attack should have been carried out by "clean, holy hands" rather than another entity with a history of violence. Gumi emphasized that annihilating terrorists is an Islamic obligation but criticized the US involvement, citing concerns over sovereignty and potential escalation.
Gumi questioned the US motives, suggesting the strike was a "neo-Crusade war against Islam" and pointing out that Sokoto, a predominantly Muslim area, was targeted without imminent threat. He urged Nigeria to seek help from neutral countries like China, Turkey, or Pakistan instead of the US, warning that US involvement could polarize the nation and attract anti-US forces.
The cleric called for documentation of casualties and criticized Nigeria's approach to counter-terrorism, saying bombing won't solve the issue without serious military presence on the ground.
