Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area's Executive Chairman, Hon. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, presented the ₦6.654 billion 2026 Budget of Renewed Hope and Progress to the Legislative Council on December 19, 2025. The budget represents a ₦1.754 billion increase from the 2025 estimate and aligns with the Enugu State Government's "Tomorrow Is Here" agenda, focusing on peace, prosperity, good governance, and inclusive growth.
The 2026 budget is anchored on national economic parameters, including a projected GDP growth rate of 4.69%, oil production of 1.8 million barrels per day, an oil price benchmark of $64.85 per barrel, and an exchange rate of ₦1,512 to one dollar. Recurrent expenditure is ₦3.166 billion (48%), while capital expenditure is ₦3.488 billion (52%), marking the first time capital expenditure exceeds recurrent spending in the council's history.
Key allocations include ₦732 million for General Services, ₦360 million for Public Order and Safety, ₦1.301 billion for the Economic Sector, ₦730 million for Education, ₦256 million for Health, and ₦150 million for Environmental Protection, Recreation, Culture and Religion.
Strategic priorities include completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones, such as constructing a council pavilion, legislative and judicial buildings, and a council stadium, as well as rural electrification and water supply projects.
