On 25th January, 2026, a popular Enugu Social Media Influencer, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, raised an alarm on his Facebook page that the Enugu State CID invited him. He wrote that the State CID did not state any reason for the invitation or who was behind the invitation.

On 26th January, escorted by his lawyer and friends, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi went to the state CID. He was informed that Enugu State SSG wrote a petition against him over two social media posts about the SSG. In the post, Chijinkem had written that the SSG said "he didn't know his ward and politics is not determinant of appointment."

Later, the video of where the SSG said these things circulated online. The SSG in these videos claimed that he was in Europe when the last election held, and he was in Europe when he was appointed. So, he doesn't even care or know his ward. His statement sparked outrage, especially among those who campaigned vigorously for the emergence of Peter Mbah.

Professor Chidiebere Onyia, the SSG, accused the influencer of reporting wrongly, and thus, the reason for writing the petition. This move has sparked debate online with Enugu State residents stating that all he said is in the public domain. People are worried that the state is treading on a dangerous path where free speech is heavily restricted.

Chijinkem Ugwuanyi is still in detention pending his arraignment in court over the petition.
