The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nkanu Youth Organisation (NYO) has suspended its National President, David Nwachukwu, indefinitely, citing financial misappropriation and abuse of office. The suspension follows allegations of diverting funds meant for the organisation's inauguration, fraudulent collection of ₦10 million using a non-existent faction's name, receiving ₦2 million to sponsor blackmail against Nkanu leaders, and diverting funds meant for registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
In a statement, the NEC announced the appointment of Vice President Pharm Gideon Nwafor as Acting President, tasking him with stabilising the organisation and restoring financial discipline. Nwachukwu has denied the allegations, claiming he's being targeted for speaking out against injustices in Enugu State politics.
The NYO has distanced itself from Nwachukwu's actions, warning that he no longer represents the organisation. The group has also referred the matter to relevant authorities for investigation and possible recovery of misappropriated funds.
